07.27.2016

Dr. Bryan O’Neal appointed to serve in leadership role

Provost and dean of Moody Bible Institute, Dr. Junias Venugopal, has announced that Dr. Bryan O'Neal has been appointed to the position of vice president and dean of Moody Bible Institute Distance Learning (MBIDL), effective July 21, 2016.

O'Neal has been with Moody since 2002, most recently serving as dean of the undergraduate school faculty at Moody Bible Institute, a position held since 2010. He also has served as a professor of Theology.

"Bryan is a senior faculty member who is gifted in administration as well as teaching, and will continue the trajectory of ensuring MBIDL's programs are academically excellent and equipping students to meet the challenges of ministry," said Venugopal. "As a Moody alum he is passionate about our history and mission, and he also fully understands the challenges students will face, having served as a pastor for a number of years. Bryan has done a superb job as dean equipping our faculty, and I am confident that MBIDL will make a significant mark in equipping Christians in the truth of God's Word under his leadership."

O'Neal earned a B.A. in Theology/Pastoral Studies from Moody Bible Institute. He also earned an M.A. and Ph.D. in Philosophy from Purdue University.

"Moody Bible Institute Distance Learning enjoys the privilege of viewing the entire globe as our campus, and we embrace the challenge to equip as many men and women as possible with our first-class Biblical education so they can impact the world for Christ," said O'Neal. "It is an incredible honor to come alongside the high-functioning, award-winning MBIDL team to serve Christ and his Church with them." During the most recent Association of Christian Distance Education's annual ACCESS Conference, MBIDL received the Course of the Year award in the online category, its seventh since 1977 and fourth in the past six years.

O'Neal added, "For over a century, Moody has served the Church around the world through distance education, from correspondence classes to online classes. We've remained flexible in our delivery methods but steadfast in our commitment to the unchanging Word of God, and we confidently depend on God's grace to sustain us in this effort moving forward."

In his new role, O'Neal will oversee the development of online courses, supervise extension programs, and lead all strategic initiatives for MBIDL. As a vice president, he will also serve with other educational leaders on the Provost's Cabinet and the President's Council.

In addition to his role at Moody, O'Neal has served with his local church's education and small group ministry. He has also been actively involved with the leadership of the Midwest region of the Evangelical Theological Society (chairing the regional society in 2008 and 2012), as well as participating in several public debates on university campuses. In coordination with his teaching in Moody's Theology Department, he's led study trips to Greece and Turkey, and taught in other Moody overseas venues.

Bryan and his wife, Denise, have three daughters and live in northwest Indiana. Bryan has served in church planting and pastoral ministry in the Indianapolis area for more than 13 years.
